About

Martha Clayton is a composer, singer and theatre-maker creating theatrical works that tend to explore themes of folklore, gender and transgression. With an interest in striking visuals, Martha often employs physical theatre and puppetry, as well as other mediums, to tell unique stories.

 

As an art-maker, Martha takes inspiration from a whole host of genres and styles including, but never limited to, folk, klezmer, cabaret and circus.

She has just graduated with a composition and vocals degree from Trinity Laban Conservatoire for Music and Dance. She has collaborated with musicians, filmmakers, actors, dancers and choreographers on a number of exciting projects.

Past Projects have included:

  • Composing and directing 'Goblin Market', a fully-staged 30-minute children’s opera premiered at Blackheath Halls (June 2023)

  • Leading a week-long Greek Theatre workshop (2023)

  • Commisioned to write for the Trinity Laban Undergraduate Chorus (2022)

  • Leading a week-long puppetry workshop (2022)

  • Co-founding Glenn Parkes, an experimental new music group (2022)

  • Finalist in the Daryl Runswick Prize (2021)

  • Directing and composing for the short film 'Ghost Stories' (2021)

  • Organising and performing in a charity recital to raise funds for the Grace Eyre Foundation held at the Purple Playhouse Theatre in Brighton (2018)
